Photos: Some Of The Worst Dressed Celebrities At The 2020 AMVCA

Tonight is all about the stars who turned up at Eko Convention Centre for the 7th edition of Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA),
As we applaud the celebrities who came to slay and win, we can’t help but point out the few who obviously need to fire their stylists. Taking a look at both male and female celebrities who walked on and posed on tonight’s red carpet, we have compiled a list of some of the worst dressed celebrities at the AMVCA’s.
Number 1 on the list is definitely BBNaija 2019 housemate, Omashola. We all know coronavirus is ravaging the earth, but trying to use it as a style inspiration was a total fail! Also, it appears Harry Songz didn’t get the “You must bring your A-Game to any red carpet” memo.

On the other hand, a lot of the ladies either had a wardrobe malfunction or just chose not to give a hoot about looking tacky. Because, what in the world is Gbemi wearing!?

Toyin Lawani vs. Swanky Jerry: Mercy’s Best Dressed award at AMVCA7 stirs controversy

Well, it appears Mercy Eke’s award as best dressed female at AMVCA7 is causing a lot of controversies. Toyin Lawani had taken to Instagram to state that “All Their Best Dressed” are jokes.

Indeed, an attack on Mercy Eke’s dressing is an attack on her stylist.

Clearly, it didn’t go down well with SwankyJerry, who was responsible for designing the dress Mercy Eke wore. As such, he directed some thinly-veiled dig at his former boss, Toyin Lawani.

How low can you go sis? Every young creative was busy giving their best last night with the number of people who showed up at the award… and you think you are who?,”
“Listen to every creative who worked at the AMVCA last night God sees your hard work and he will reward you… keep believing in yourself…. from hairstylist, makeup artist, dressmakers, designers, photographers you all did an amazing job and your work is not a joke… don’t let nobody lie to you…. please sis if you are tired go and rest.

Apparently, Toyin didn’t take his remarks with a pinch of salt, as she has decided to throw fire for fire. And in her scathing attack, she didn’t spare Nigerians, who according to her misinterpreted her statement.
“People don’t like the truth, so when you speak it they hate you,” she wrote. “Most of y’all are cowards.
She continued, “Today I realized English is a big problem for some people; we all write differently. Nigerians y’all all love to twist things and hate, so if I state my opinion does it mean that mercy’s outfits or mikes outfits are not nice.
“Y’all are jokers like I said and if you don’t know the meaning of joke go and check the dictionary. hiss.
“I usually don’t reply your stupidity and betrayals, even when you stayed online to be mocking and trolling me with your formal bestie I didn’t reply you, I left you to God, but I will reply you this time.

She continued, “That I said the looks they chose are jokes don’t mean they are ugly, the same way everyone is saying my clothes are ugly, and they didn’t get the message some of my clients were trying to pass doesn’t mean it’s not artistic. Did I fight to win best dressed with you people? I don’t compete I do my work and bounce; stars don’t struggle to shine.
“Pls free me, let me air my opinion in peace regardless of who created what and what. Does that mean I have a problem with mercy? You people just try to create enmity daily. Go sit down. Iya e lo tired.
“I SAID WHAT I SAID PERIOD HATE MY WORK ALL YOU LIKE; THE WORLD WHO HAVE BRAIN ARE NOT BLIND,” she added.
Coupled with her lengthy tirade, she shared a video in which she lambasted SwankyJerry.

See the people who are not happy that Mercy and Mike Won Best Dressed at AMVCA7

AMVCA 2020 has come and gone. However, several people continue to comment on the key moments at the events.

First off, several people have expressed their displeasure at the fact that Mercy Eke and Mike won the best dressed female and male respectively.

Chief among them is Celebrity stylist, Toyin Lawani, who took to her Instagram page to express her dissatisfaction.
“Most of my looks didn’t make it to the Red carpet but all their Best Dressed are jokes,” She wrote. “OK lets even forget about my own dresses that Nana lady and Demola looked nice as hell.

Mike Edwards won the best dressed male at AMVCA7.

She ended up concluding that everyone is entitled to their choices, which as a matter of fact is the case.
See everyone is entitled to their opinion like the rest of the world , but when tiannah talks it means she’s spoiling other people’s work , common give yourself and your village people some sense,” she added.

Well, she is not alone, as several people bye her opinion.

Well, the best-dressed awards were decided by votes. Apparently, Mike and Mercy Eke had more votes.
Besides, virtually everyone at the event looked gorgeous. So, if other persons would have emerged winners, it would still have aroused debates.

‘Some borrowed money to look good at AMVCA7’

Nigerian Actress, Nkechi Blessing, has delivered a scathing attack at some of her colleagues in the industry.

She shared a video claiming that some of them borrowed money to look good while some, on the other hand, are indebted to the tailors who made their clothes.

Nkechi Blessings says that her smashing outfit at AMVCA7 didn’t cost her millions. Image: Nkechi Blessing
“I pity those who borrowed money for the AMVCA,” she said. “The ones that made designers cloths of millions. By now their eyes are clear. As for us, we don’t do more than our selves.”
She went on to say that she was able to look good on a budget, without having to spend millions.

It’s not clear who she’s directing her statements at. Indeed, several celebrities looked gorgeous and expensive.
Recall that we told you that Mike Edwards and Mercy Eke won the AMVCA best-dressed male and female respectively.
As a result, Mercy’s Celebrity designer Swanky Jerry and Toyin Lawani got into a serious argument after the latter suggested that the design didn’t deserve the award.

The internet allows us to send messages, share pictures, download music and stream videos at a touch of a button, but our online habits have a surprising impact on the environment.

It’s probable you’ve already replied to a couple of emails today, sent some chat messages and maybe performed a quick internet search. As the day wears on you will doubtless spend even more time browsing online, uploading images, playing music and streaming video.
Each of these activities you perform online comes with a small cost – a few grams of carbon dioxide are emitted due to the energy needed to run your devices and power the wireless networks you access. Less obvious, but perhaps even more energy intensive, are the data centres and vast servers needed to support the internet and store the content we access over it.
Although the energy needed for a single internet search or email is small, approximately 4.1 billion people, or 53.6% of the global population, now use the internet. Those scraps of energy, and the associated greenhouse gases emitted with each online activity, can add up.
The carbon footprint of our gadgets, the internet and the systems supporting them account for about 3.7% of global greenhouse emissions, according to some estimates. It is similar to the amount produced by the airline industry globally, explains Mike Hazas, a researcher at Lancaster University. And these emissions are predicted to double by 2025.

Mali backs singer Rokia Traoré after French arrest

Mali's government has issued a statement in support of the singer Rokia Traoré, who was arrested in Paris over a child custody dispute.
The statement pointed out that she has a diplomatic passport.
France was acting on an arrest warrant from Belgium.
It is seeking her extradition after a Belgian court ordered Traoré to hand over her five-year-old daughter to her estranged former partner, a Belgian national.
The Belgian warrant accused her of kidnapping and hostage-taking.
She was arrested on Tuesday as she arrived at Charles de Gaulle airport, in Paris.
She was stopping in France on the way from Bamako to Brussels where she intended to appeal against the decision of the Belgian court to grant full custody to her former partner, her lawyer told AFP news agency.
According to the newspaper Le Monde, she is on hunger strike in jail.
A court hearing in France is due on Wednesday to examine the request for her extradition to Belgium.

MRKH syndrome: 'The day I discovered I was born without a vagina'

                                                                                       JULIAN PETER

A routine question from her doctor about menstruation set Kenyan Julian Peter, now 29, down a path that led her to discover she was born without a womb, cervix or a vagina. Twelve years on she shared her story with the BBC's Anne Ngugi.

I was born with a condition called Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome (MRKH), where you have no womb or vagina, and you can also find yourself with just one kidney.
A woman who has MRKH can never get periods.
I don't have a uterus, so I've never had periods. This is the normal that I know, I don't feel bad about it.
People have different feelings about who I am.

'They can say whatever they want'

Someone told me that I should go somewhere to be prayed for.
Another person said that because I come from Ukambani [a region that is stereotypically linked to witchcraft] then my grandmother had something to do with this.
They can say whatever they want to but what really matters is how I take it. If I were to listen to them it would start affecting me, and I would start thinking that what they were saying was true.
I discovered I had the syndrome when I was a 17-year-old school student.
I went to hospital as I had problem with my legs, which were swollen. The first thing the doctor asked me was when I last had my period. I had never had one.
Julian Peter
I cried on the first day and the second day and the third, but then I moved on... my priority was to get back to school"

Julian Peter

They did a scan. The first image indicated that my reproductive tract was closed from the outside.
I went through an operation to open it, which was not successful.
I had another scan that showed I had no uterus or vagina, and that was when I was diagnosed with MRKH.
I cried on the first day and the second day and the third, but then I moved on. I was only 17 and quite small, so my priority was to get back to school.
I was in hospital with my mother, my only parent, and the diagnosis shocked her. I think as a parent there were questions she was bound to ask herself, Essentially she was wondering if she had done something wrong.

'I didn't want the operation'

As I had studied biology, I understood what the doctor was saying that first time.
I told her that I didn't want to go through with an operation at that point as I wanted to go back to school to complete my education.
Ten years later, I went back to hospital and had a successful operation.
The type of MRKH that I had meant that I had no vagina, no womb and I only have one kidney. My vaginal canal was not there and it had to be created.
My life is normal as MRKH does not interfere with how I want to live. But for some it is emotionally disturbing and people might need to go to a psychologist to accept the condition.
When you realise the implications of the condition that you have, you have to forget about giving birth to children.

Coronavirus: Nigerian celebrities wear blinged-up masks

Nigerian celebrities turned up to a glitzy award ceremony wearing glittery, jewelled face masks amid the coronavirus pandemic.
That is despite medical experts advising that face masks do not provide effective protection.
At least one of the stars said they were using the mask to make a statement rather than to prevent the spread of the virus.
Nigeria has reported just two confirmed cases of coronavirus and no deaths.
The first case of the coronavirus in sub-Saharan Africa was an Italian who flew from Milan to Lagos in February.
The Big Brother Naija finalist Omashola Kola Oburoh said he turned up to the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards (AMVCA) awards in a glittery mask as a protest.
"Fashion can also be a Protest/Educative not just a Statement...... let's join hands to fight Covid19," he said in an Instagram post.
