marriage

Why did I choose to marry you?

One is, you're hot.

Why are you laughing?

We have two kids.

We have been married for almost six years now.

I always wanted a person who is very funny

very happy-go-lucky

who knows how to party and he knows how to work.

You were everything that I ever dreamt of.

You're like my dream guy.

Now you know?

I have known her for nearly 50 years.

42 years married, 50 years dating and so on.

I'm not good looking, so I did ask her

I said, "Sweetheart, why did you marry me?"

She said, "Actually, I'm a very practical person.

I purposely chose you because you're not handsome."

I said, "Why?"

She said, "Because I know if you look like Leonardo DiCaprio

[In Malay] alamak (gosh), all the girls will want you!

So I chose you because I know nobody wants you.

Only I am silly enough to take you."

[Laughs]

Anyway, I thank God for that.

We have been married for 26 years.

The first time I met her

at first I thought, "Wow

is this Maizurah Hamzah (Singaporean singer) or what?"

Why I chose to marry him is because

he was very brave to meet up with my father.

Because my father is very strict.

Because he is an ex-army sergeant.

My father had known him as a recruit

so my father knew him first.

When my father looked at him, "This man?

This guy wants to court my daughter? I don't think so."

But after that, he talked to my father

my father liked him so much.

Even until today.

We've been married since 2017.

We've known each other since 2015.

So it has been many years already.

And I just gave birth to a baby girl.

Jean: Why did you choose to marry me?

Why did I choose...

Jean: Why?

Because I think she's someone that I do not want to lose

and I do not want to stop chatting together with every day.

Then in my heart, I'm saying that

"No, I cannot let go of this lady.

So once you've let her go, you'll definitely regret it."

So that's why I locked down.

Lock her down.

Marriage is actually more than what I imagined.

I think marriage is a lot more about commitment.

It goes beyond being so tired and still doing it.

And when you have kids, it's a whole different ballgame.

Because both of us are in an interracial marriage

with different religions, different cultures

we actually took up the responsibility

to look after our two boys by ourselves.

So that we're fair.

Nobody has ever imagined that

he would be the person he is today who

after work, he comes back home

he doesn't do any more entertainment.

It's all about family, about spending time with our children.

So even if his friends call him, he'll say

"No, I'm very tired.

I need to look after the boys."

When we first got married

we always think that, wow, marriage is so romantic

a knight in shining armour coming for you.

But in reality, we have a lot of differences.

J: Living with each other.

A: Living with each other with all the habits is different.

So when I married her she said, "You must wear pajamas."

I said, "Why can't I wear my short pants

the same shirt I wore the whole day?

Why can't I sleep - "

"No way, you're not going to sleep with me if you don't (wear pajamas)."

So I've got to learn, you know.

And one of the major adjustments when I married her is that

I was a captain (in the army).

I had a tendency to talk down to her.

You know, like, "You are my subordinate", that kind of thing.

A: Yes.

J: And she has to remind me

"Excuse me... I'm not your soldier."

"Okay, sorry ma'am."

[In Mandarin] After we got married, I realised I became a different man.

I mean, a changed man.

I became more stable and sensible.

More [In Singlish] steady bom pi pi.

[In English] More steady.

[Laughs]

I actually extended and prolonged the time of courtship.

Because I realised that

Jean: I wanted to test him, whether he would be stable enough

Jake: Still worth it or not.

Jean: I wanted to test him, whether he would be stable enough

steady enough, patient enough to accept who I am now.

He gives me that kind of security.

I think this is how I imagined (marriage) to be.

We still joke, we still say funny things, dirty things.

I did get some experiences from my friends, saying that, you know

they did not stay together before marriage.

And then when they actually got married

they realised that they couldn't stay together

and they couldn't suit each other's lifestyles and habits.

(Staying together) is what we did before our marriage.

So you can see like, does he snore?

The cleanliness, the sleeping style.

It's a challenge.

More challenging than what we think.

Actually the difficulties are mostly financial.

He had gotten all the credit cards

although I mentioned to him, "No, don't."

These people come in (and say)

"Oh, bro, for your salary, you will be able to get this credit card

for a so-called good offer."

In the end, I almost got a cut on my head.

Because when you dig one hole, you open up another hole.

So that is when the problem comes.

From there, I didn't want to make her worry

so I tried to overcome it by myself

because I'm the one who created the problem.

I didn't want her to be involved.

But in the end, she also had to get involved in my situation.

I was very disappointed, angry and sad also

because he never shared with me about his difficulties.

I was angry but I controlled myself

because I always think that if I have too much anger

we won't solve this problem.

I've washed my hands already. No more.

I don't want to apply for any of the (credit) cards.

I just want my family to be happy from now on.

Did he change?

Well, as you grow older, you kind of mellow too.

So I just accept him as who he is

and just, well.

Sometimes she changes.

If I can't change, she changes.

I mean, that is how you get along, you know.

26th of March is our Hindu wedding

C: 26th of April is our church wedding.

M: Ya.

C: 26th of April is our church wedding.

27th of April is our customary wedding.

So it's like one after the other, it's impossible to forget.

But we don't know which one to celebrate all the time.

For me, I'm a very practical guy, so I don't believe in anniversaries.

The day I met her is the best day ever.

I never forget.

I always forget.

As long as he remembers that he has me as a wife.

R: That's all.

S: Every day we can do our anniversary.

R: That's all.

I'm a driver and I spend a lot of time on the road.

Sometimes from Changi I will buy food for (her and her colleagues)

then I will just bring it down to Jurong.

We always remember our anniversary.

He's so sweet, he will always buy me flowers

and gifts and all that.

I'm quite a romantic person.

Our anniversary, her birthday, my birthday

Mother's Day, Father's Day, are all in the diary.

So we don't forget.

We need to celebrate milestones in our lives.

And to tell our children that marriage is good.

You know, ya, it's good.

Look at mum and dad.

Ladies first.

Okay, we disagree quite a bit when it comes to parenting.

We were always fighting back then.

We can accept whatever that happens between us, but not our kids.

Especially our firstborn

because I'm the only daughter and he's the only son

and that's our first son so we had a lot of arguments also

because we were influenced by both our parents as well.

How they think that it should be like.

But later on, we came to a conclusion that

no, we have to make decisions for ourselves.

Because we accepted that we are from different backgrounds

different cultures, different religions.

So we decided that we were going to raise them on both sides.

So we will respect whatever that he has to do in Hinduism

he will respect whatever I have to do in Catholicism for the kids.

And we have been very happy since.

In the beginning, when the kids came

there'd be disagreements about how to raise the children.

A: Yeah.

J: She's very strict, you know.

Cannot eat this, cannot eat that, bad for your health, and all that.

But I am liberal.

She still remembers that I bought one lollipop for my daughter

as big as her face.

Can you imagine how long it would take for her to lick the lollipop?

"Why did you go and buy this food?"

I think communication is one of the most important (things).

You need to communicate with each other.

If you don't communicate, you sweep everything under the carpet

it's not going to work.

What I would do, I would tell him

I said, "If I shout

if I am angry, you keep quiet.

R: You don't be angry also."

S: Don't interrupt.

R: You don't be angry also."

R: Don't interrupt.

If he is angry

like I know that his face is angry or whatsoever

I won't disturb him.

So I will tell my kids

"Okay, bapa (father) is not in the mood.

You don't make him angrier."

My wife and my kids, they've got a chat group.

No, you also have.

No, without my name.

Usually, what happens is

if I argue, or if I get angry

I'll just walk out of the house and meet my friends

so that we don't have very heated arguments.

It's like, you know, it's already too hot

so it's better to step out and come back again.

We will text each other what we felt.

And I feel that it's a lot better because

he will read everything before he answers and replies.

Whereas if we do it face to face

before he completes his sentence or before I complete my sentence

we would make it even worse.

So, ya, texting sort of helps.

Thanks to WhatsApp.

[Laughs]

In an argument, look at each other in the eyes and say

"Maybe you are right."

And that settles everything.

She doesn't want to argue. "Maybe you are right."

So she says, this guy accepts that maybe I'm right.

And I'm also giving myself a chance in that, maybe she's right.

There are many times when I tell him to do certain things

and it's not done, and I repeat myself

and then he gets mad and he would raise his voice.

Sometimes it's simple things, like when she says

"Jeff, where are the scissors?"

I say, "Down there!"

"Is it? Excuse me.

Can you say that all over again in a very loving voice?

And the children are listening to what you've just said to me.

A: Yes.

And the children are listening to what you've just said to me.

A: Ya.

You are teaching them to be rude."

You need to say, "I am sorry."

"Sorry" is such a difficult word to say.

You can win the argument

but you will lose the good relationship with one another.

"Sorry", you know, is so easy (to say).

But for him, sometimes he will say it too much.

He would be like, "Sorry."

Then he would say it a second time, "Sorry."

The third time when he'd want to say it again, I'd be like

"Can you stop saying that?"

Sometimes he is very xiao nan ren (soft).

When I want him to be a bit macho.

But at least he's a man who knows how to say sorry.

I think it's a thing that deserves respect from us.

No.

I sound like didi (younger son).

No, no.

So I appreciate everything that he does.

Even the littlest thing, like to start the washing machine

I would say thank you for doing that. It's like an extra mile.

No, I never took him for granted.

I cook good food for him to eat.

Ya, I'm prosperous.

Her food is very nice. Very good cook.

R: Ya, he was not like this before.

Her food is very nice. Very good cook.

[Laughs]

R: Ya, he was very skinny.

S: Previously I was like this, you know?

R: Ya, he was very skinny.

Now he's like that.

I'm in a wheelchair, so

when I shower I need to hop on the shower chair.

When I change, I need to hop on the bed

to change my clothes and everything.

So he would help me along the way.

I feel I would take him for granted

as in like, "Can you be faster?"

You know, that kind of thing.

But for me to spark, to realise that

I take him for granted, is quite fast.

Then I would be like

"Okay, why'd I do that?"

You know, it's not his job or his duty to (assist me).

He cares for me and loves me.

He's very concerned about me, that's why he does that.

So interesting.

What does love look like to you now?

Love, now, is companionship.

I wish when the Lord calls me home

He calls me home first.

I can say it to her right now.

You know, I can't live without you, seriously.

Wow.

[In Hokkien] Are you for real?

[Laughs]

He shares (his love for me) with our daughter.

Ya, a bit, but I did say

she's still number one in the rankings

the second place is to the baby.

I don't believe you.

Really.

Can I live without her?

Cannot.

Producer: Why?

She plays a very important role in my heart.

In my daily routines, whenever I go to work and come back

so the first thing I want to see is her.

Be it whether she's in a wheelchair

to me, she's still just a normal lady.

You know, the pain.

All the daily stuff that she encounters

to me, she's still very strong.

Producer: So Jean, why are you crying?

I think nobody has asked this kind of question before.

Next question is.

[In Mandarin] It can be washed off, don't worry.

What do you think about saying "I love you"?

I love you.

[Laughs]

When you get to hear these words, everything starts to, you know

be it whether how tired you are, you'll get sweetened up.

It brightens up the day.

During our church wedding

there's this priest called Father Simon Pereira

that we are very, very close to.

He actually gave us a tip to have a very happy marriage.

It's where you wake up every morning and say "I love you like crazy".

So he made both of us say it in front of the congregation.

Everyone heard us.

So it was an everyday duty and we are still doing it.

Whether it's like face-to-face or through messages

we always make sure to say "I love you" every day.

For me, it's action.

Actions speak louder than words.

J: Ya.

Actions speak louder than words.

So every time when she does my hair, she's saying "I love you".

For him, action and words of affirmation.

I have faith in you.

Okay.

Before you get married, you have to know each other first.

Learn more about your partner.

During your married life, also continue to learn about your partner.

Communication is important.

Trust each other.

Do not listen to third parties.

End of the day, marriage is about you and your wife.

Never compare your husband, your wife

with somebody's husband or wife.

Don't compare your mother-in-law with your friend's mother-in-law.

No. No comparisons.

Always look at the good of the person that you've married.

Basically it's all about maintaining.

Jake: Maintaining.

Maintaining what you are during courtship time.

Maintaining what you are during courtship time.

Jake: Mmm.

Maintaining what you are during courtship time.

And relationship time.

I know that we can maintain it until we grow old.

Because he's the one.

Am I your one?

Okay?

It's awkward, right?

M: No?

C: We are very awkward.

[In Mandarin] I can't!

Saying our vows is very difficult, we will cry.

[In Hokkien] S: Paiseh (embarrassed).

[In Malay] R: Alamak (gosh) my husband.

[In English] Ya, he is like this.

I'm an emotional guy.

I can be jovial, I can be emotional.

I, Jeffrey Goh, take you, Alice Seow, to be my wedded wife.

Thank you for being a great husband and a hands-on dad.

[In Malay] I hope we get to build up a happy marriage

even with (all the) challenges.

[In English] Darling, I will compromise all your nonsense, all the

All my nonsense.

All your good and bad things.

You'll always stay healthy.

This you'll have to promise.

In sickness and in health, till death do us part.

Help me God.

[In Malay] I want to apologise.

I don’t get to give luxurious things to you and the kids.

I have given you what I am capable of providing.

And may we go through our ark of love together.

If God wills so. Amin.

[In English] We still do.

Aww.

Producer: I've not said that you may kiss the bride.

Facebook Positions ‘Messenger’ To Help Combat Coronavirus

Facebook on Monday began enlisting outside developers to create ways its Messenger service can help health organizations battling the novel coronavirus.

The social network also invited software savants to take part in an online “hackathon” aimed at creating ways to use Messenger to ease social-distancing and deliver accurate information about the pandemic, according to Messenger vice president Stan Chudnovsky in a blog post.

He unveiled a global program intended to connect government health organizations and UN agencies with developers who can create ways to use Messenger share accurate information and speed up responses to people’s questions.

Software makers, for example, could help agencies automate answering common questions, to allow staff to tackle more challenging tasks.

Developers can also help organizations use software to quickly distribute updated information.
UNICEF and Pakistan’s Ministry of National Health  already use Messenger to keep people posted about COVID-19, according to the Facebook-owned messaging platform.

Facebook-owned messaging service WhatsApp recently launched a free World Health Organization alert designed to answer questions about the coronavirus and debunk “coronavirus myths.”

The service, launching in English, is to expand in coming weeks to include Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish.

WhatsApp last week launched a Coronavirus Information Hub in partnership with WHO and United Nations organizations.

WhatsApp, which claims more than a billion users, issued a $1 million grant to an International Fact Checking Network alliance devoted to reporting on coronavirus rumors spreading on messaging services.

“We think the most important step WhatsApp can take is to help connect people directly with public health officials providing crucial updates about coronavirus,” spokesman Carl Woog told AFP.
Concerns have been raised about WhatsApp and other messaging services being used to spread bogus information about coronavirus.

WhatsApp software prevents users from blasting messages to massive numbers of people at once, which tends to be a spam tactic.
The service also labels forwarded or chain messages to show people they did not come directly from a friend or family member.

"Ghana should be called the giant of Africa, not Nigeria" - BBNaija's Gifty explains

Her concern follows the declaration of Kolkota International Airport as the best and most improved airport in Africa by the Airport Council International (ACI).
According to her, it is unimaginable how Ghana is always ahead of Nigeria in some vital sectors of the continent’s economy despite the latter’s huge resources.
The beautiful lady is worried that her motherland is more notorious for all the bad reason including corruption, terrorism and other social vices rather than infrastructural and economic development.
Pouring out her frustrations on social media, Gifty Powers wrote: "Honestly ehn, Ghana should be called the giant of Africa, because they make good use with their heads and not with their belly/selfish interest.
"Every country does politics (corruption), I get it, Ghana hides theirs but Nigeria opens theirs like say na we own the Galaxy, say nothing fit happen. Like say na we own "ODESHI". No respect at all. SMH.
"Why can't our government for once just forget about their stomachs and fucking put things straight in this country.

Paul Pogba explains why he wore Juventus jersey in training session

Manchester United midfielder, Paul Pogba, has given reasons he was wearing a Juventus jersey in quarantine training session with teammate, Victor Lindelof.
Pogba said he was wearing the Juventus jersey on Wednesday in support of international teammate Blaise Matuidi, who tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) earlier this week.
Newsmen recall that Matuidi became the second Juventus player to test positive for coronavirus after Daniele Rugani.
Pogba, in a tweet on his official Instagram page on Wednesday, said: “New training camp is called: ‘Quarantine PP Arena, open 24/7.
“Have fun working at home with my brother Victor Lindelof!
“Supporting our friends Blaise Matuidi, Albin Ekdal, and all athletes and people around the world! Be strong, #StayAtHome and be safe.
“I know the cheeky ones will talk about the Juventus jersey.
“I’m just supporting my friends… that’s all, nothing more.”
Pogba, who turned 27 last Sunday, is currently recovering from knee surgery.

Father Ejike Mbaka: Coronavirus will die like Ebola

Rev Fr Ejike Mbaka, Adoration Minister, on Wednesday, declared that God has a cure for deadly Coronavirus.
Mbaka urged Nigerians not to be afraid or panic of the deadly Coronavirus because it would soon be a thing of the past.
He gave the charge during a praying at the Enugu Adoration ground during a special prayer for elimination of the disease.
Mbaka said: “To those who believe in God, all things are possible. No matter how it has defied people, it cannot defy God.
“Coronavirus, wherever you came from, be it any name you answer- caterpillar virus, venza virus, corolla virus, I command you to be ceased, in the Holy Ghost fire!
“Children of God, when you go home, circulate the message that a man of God known as Fr. Ejike Mbaka told you to not be afraid of coronavirus, be courageous it will soon be a thing of the pass.
“Fear is a dangerous omen, if you become perplexed; it shows that you don’t believe so much on God’s power. Ebola came, it died off. This one will also die off. It is like bird flu disease, it will come and go. I know that the whole world is waiting to hear for the message that will come out from this place, but the message I have is that the disease will soon go.
“Under the priestly anointing, I release healing to the entire world ,particularly where the disease is ravaging so much, let there be healing, let there be sunray always, which is one of the antidotes to the disease. God release drug that will cure it in Jesus name.”
This is coming at a time when Federal Government placed a travel ban from some country.
The ban was aimed at curbing the spread of the disease in Nigeria.

Nigerians hail government’s reduction of petrol price to N125 as marketers kick - March 18, 2020

Mixed reactions on Wednesday trailed the reduction in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit from N145 to N125 per litre by the Federal Government.
While some Nigerians lauded the reduction, petroleum marketers, however, faulted the government for not engaging stakeholders before announcing the new price regime.
Newsmen report that President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the reduction following the crash in the global crude oil prices.
Mr Adetokunbo Mumuni, Executive Director, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), told newsmen that the reduction would bring temporary relief to Nigerians who had been facing myriads of economic challenges.
Mumuni said: “SERAP welcomes the reduction in the price of fuel but we think more can still be done to lessen the pains of our people.
“We all know what Nigerians are facing today due to the harsh situation of the country and we believe government needs to do more to bring succour to the people.”
Wilson Opuwei, an oil and gas expert, said the government should be commended for the reduction having successfully subsidised fuel when prices were high at the international market.
Opuwei, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Dateline Energy Services Limited, however, said that the government ought to have carried the marketers along before arriving at the decision.
“This kind of reduction comes as a shock to marketers who have already ordered for products but hopefully the government will pay the differentials.
”Also, the marketers should adjust their prices because this is a patriotic decision taken in the overall interest of Nigerians,” he said.
However, a top marketer who spoke to newsmen on condition of anonymity, said the government was not being fair to marketers.
“They have failed to pay marketers subsidy and then this unilateral reduction of price without consultation is not acceptable.
”What happens to all the stock that has been sold to marketers at a higher price? Will government pay the cash difference now?
“Government should be engaging marketers to plan for deregulation and not to set arbitrary prices,” he said.
Newsmen also reports that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)’s official twitter handle said that the new N125 per litre pump price of the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) petrol, will begin from March 19, 2020.
“In compliance with the directives of the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources on PMS pricing, the Corporation has reviewed its Ex-coastal, Ex-depot and NNPC Retail pump prices accordingly.
“Effective March 19, 2020, NNPC Ex-Coastal price for PMS has been reviewed downwards from N117.6/litre to N99.44/litre while Ex-Depot price is reduced from N133.28/litre to N113.28/litre.
“These reductions will therefore translate to N125/litre retail pump price,” it said.

COVID19: 23 suspected cases identified in 5 states

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says 23 suspected cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) have been identified in Edo, Lagos, Ogun, FCT and Kano states, out of which one was confirmed positive “index case” with no death.
NCDC Director General, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, disclosed this while speaking with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja, adding that as at March 7, there was no new confirmed case of COVID-19 in the country.
NAN reports that this was the eighth national situation report, following the confirmation of the first case of COVID-19 disease in the country on Feb. 27, 2020.

Ihekweazu said that a total of 219 contacts were identified, including contacts from hotel, workplace and healthcare workers.
“No new contacts have been reported in Lagos and Ogun states,” he stressed.
He said the confirmed case was clinically stable at the designated treatment facility for COVID-19 at the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Yaba, Lagos.
He reiterated that a multi-sectoral national Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) activated at level three, had continued to coordinate the national response activities, led by NCDC.
He noted that the field investigations were ongoing and all contacts were undergoing daily symptom monitoring.
According to him, Index patient is currently being managed at IDH, Lagos, while passenger screening is ongoing at all international airports.
He added that there was also centralised follow up of Persons of Interests (POIs) initiated for persons outside Lagos and Ogun states.
“Testing of samples collected through the national influenza sentinel surveillance system as part of enhanced surveillance is ongoing.
“A draft tool for tracking and monitoring HCW infection has been developed,” he said.
Ihekweazu said that resources on COVID-19 had been developed by NCDC, for guidance of schools, Infection Prevention and Control Recommendations for health workers. He said that Nigeria had published the first African SARS-CoV-2 genome sequence, from the COVID-19 case.

This, he said was carried out in collaboration with the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) African Centre of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases (ACEGID) and the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).
He added that the project was coordinated by the World Health Organisation(WHO) and NCDC.
NAN reports that the global situation, as at March, 6, 2020 was 98,192 confirmed cases which had been reported.
88.4 percent cases in China, 3,400 deaths.
The nine countries in Africa with reported cases are – Algeria, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Senegal, Nigeria, South Africa, Cameroon and Togo. The WHO global risk assessment however, remained high.

Nigeria likely to record more positive cases of COVID-19

Experts are worried that there could be more cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria in the next two weeks, insisting that it is inevitable because the country has been identified as one of the 13 countries in Africa at a high risk of being overwhelmed by the virus due to weak health sector.
Also, the index case of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in Nigeria, a 44-year-old Italian, yesterday completed the 14-day isolation recommended by the World Heath Organisation (WHO).
Although the viral load of the 44-year-old Italian citizen is reducing, he would not yet be discharged from the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Yaba, Lagos, as he was not yet totally free from the virus.

The assertion was made by Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu; WHO Consultant on COVID-19 in Nigeria and Team Leader, Expanded Programme on Immunisation, Dr. Fiona Braka and Director, Epidemiology, Biosecurity and Global Health and Incident Manager COVID-19 Outbreak Lagos State Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), Dr. Ismail Abdul-Salam, who spoke with journalists at a roundtable in Lagos yesterday.
They said contrary to some media reports, the Italian was visiting Nigeria for the first time as a consultant to a company in Ogun State, just as it was learnt that the Italian’s wife and brother have also tested positive to the virus in Italy.
“We are worried that we may have explosion of cases of coronavirus in our country. This is why we are given special attention on passengers coming from China, Italy, Iran, South Korea and Japan,” Ihekweazu said.

Braka said the WHO declaration that COVID-19 was now a pandemic meant that all countries, especially those at high risk such as Nigeria needed to redouble their efforts to prevent a situation where they would be overwhelmed by the virus.
Abdul-Salam pointed out that Lagos has prepared for the worst case scenario in which many people may be infected with the virus, adding, “At the beginning, even before the country confirmed the first case, with the help of the WHO we have prepared for the worst case scenario.”
Ihekweazu said as at March 11, 2020, there are two confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria and apart from the index case, a total of 40 people have been screened for COVID-19 (seven new) in five States (Edo, Lagos, Ogun, Federal Capital Territory, FCT/Abuja and Kano) of which 39 tested negative and have been ruled out, while one confirmed positive which is a contact of index case with no death.

CORONAVIRUS:Enugu case still undergoing medical test, minister declares

- Children, Africans may have special protection against COVID-19
Contrary to reports that a woman in Enugu who just returned from the United States (U.S.) has tested positive to coronavirus, Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire said, “The Enugu case is not confirmed but still undergoing medical tests.”
However, the Enugu State Ministry of Health has quarantined a 70-year old woman suspected to be infected with the coronavirus. She was said to have travelled to the United Kingdom (UK) five months ago to see her children.

She came into the country on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 with fever, cough and mild respiratory distress and was flow from Lagos to Owerri Airport in Imo State where she was moved to Enugu and isolated at the Colliery Hospital, where doctors collected oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal swab and sputum samples.
Ehanire said there was no new confirmed case of COVID-19 in Nigeria as at Saturday, March 14, 2020.
“Cumulatively, Nigeria has recorded two confirmed cases of COVID-19 with no death and apart from the index case, 48 people including five new suspected cases have been screened for COVID-19 in Edo, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, and Yobe states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of which 46 tested negative and have been ruled out, while the result is being awaited for one case,” he said

Meanwhile, there are indications that children and people from Africa may have special protection against coronavirus. While a recent study has backed up claims that the virus was less severe in children and less likely to kill them compared to adults, there was yet any scientific evidence supporting the latter notion.
The debate was fuelled by the fact that the first Nigerian patient was cured of the virus in less than five days compared to the Italian index case still battling with the disease 17 days after.

The Guardian recalled that the index case in Nigeria, a 44-year-old Italian that tested positive to the virus on February 27, 2020, was yet to be cured, while the second confirmed case, a 40-year-old Nigeria tested positive on March 8, 2020, but was discharged on March 13.
Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, said, “The index case is clinically stable at the designated treatment facility for COVID-19, the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Yaba, Lagos. An additional sample has been collected for retesting.

“The second confirmed case, who was in contact with the index case, has tested negative twice, has cleared the virus and was discharged on March 13, 2020.
“All other contacts of the index case completed their follow up period on Friday 13th of March 2020 and have been allowed to re-integrate into the society and resume their normal lives.”

He, however, insisted that there is no scientific evidence that black people have any advantage, adding, “For now we cannot explain what happened. It does not mean that Africans or blacks have special protection against the virus, because that can’t be determined with one case.
“We need more cases and evidence to determine that, but what is available shows that the virus has affected both whites and blacks globally.”

Photos: Some Of The Worst Dressed Celebrities At The 2020 AMVCA

Tonight is all about the stars who turned up at Eko Convention Centre for the 7th edition of Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA),
As we applaud the celebrities who came to slay and win, we can’t help but point out the few who obviously need to fire their stylists. Taking a look at both male and female celebrities who walked on and posed on tonight’s red carpet, we have compiled a list of some of the worst dressed celebrities at the AMVCA’s.
Number 1 on the list is definitely BBNaija 2019 housemate, Omashola. We all know coronavirus is ravaging the earth, but trying to use it as a style inspiration was a total fail! Also, it appears Harry Songz didn’t get the “You must bring your A-Game to any red carpet” memo.

On the other hand, a lot of the ladies either had a wardrobe malfunction or just chose not to give a hoot about looking tacky. Because, what in the world is Gbemi wearing!?
